About 4 months ago my husband and I started a Property Preservation business. Basically, we maintain foreclosed properties until the banks are able to sell them. We do everything from cutting the grass, to repairing roofs, to cleaning out all the junk left when people move out. Right now it's just my husband (who does 90% of the field work), a part-time helper, and me (doing the book keeping & job submissions from home). We have 2 preservation companies and 1 property management company that we work for, and they keep us super busy.
We sort of stumbled into this business accidentally, but it's been a huge blessing for us. My husband used to work in the new home construction industry, but has been hopping from job to job for the past couple of years since the new house market crashed. He was actually working at a warehouse when I found an ad for this on CraigsList. The number of foreclosed properties is HUGE and there is a big demand for this sort of work right now...and with my husband's previous construction experience, he was a perfect fit for the job. I feel really bad for all of the families that have lost their homes, especially since we were VERY close to losing ours not too long ago, but like any other job, there's a demand for the work, and if we don't do it, someone else will. Plus, it's the first job in 5 years that my husband has actually enjoyed doing. That's huge for us!
Anyway, that's the business I run. Tell us about yours!
