I'm interested to know what you think about it.
Anger is almost always an emotion for people who wish to control others while simultaneously failing to control themselves.

I didn't get too far. I finished The Help yesterday and went straight to this one. I'm not even through chapter 1 yet. By the time I was able to sit down and read last night it was about time for Hell's Kitchen LOL.

I'm through the first 2 chapters. I WANT TO HIT THAT MAN!

I know it. He's evil.

You can't stream the movie so I guess I'll have to find it on DVD after I finish the book.
I watched the trailer last night and was disappointed to see Jennifer Hudson as Rosaleen. I think she's a great actress but NOTHING like I pictured Rosaleen looking. I picture her being "rougher" looking. What my daddy would "rode hard and put up wet". That's NOT a sexual term (my parents are southern Baptist LOL) but it's term about horses. I just picture her looking like she's worked hard...keep in mind, Rosaleen used to pick in the fields. Jennifer Hudson is too clean cut for this roll, in my opinion...and too young. I guess I pictures Rosaleen looking more like Sipsey in Fried Green Tomatoes...just a bit younger.

I know what you mean; I hate when I have a definite picture of a character in my mind's eye and they miscast that character in the movie! Don't they know they're supposed to check with us first??
Actually, I think Jennifer Hudson did a good job in the role of Rosaleen, though.

You're the second person to tell me that. So I guess I'll go in with an open mind LOL.

I think the Rosaleen character needed to be youthful and not completely beaten down by life in order to do what she does to get in trouble.

I guess I pictured her being like 30 - 40 and just...worked. Sadly, if it was a true story she would have lead A LOT of life by that age. So I pictured her being like 35ish but feeling and looking older.

I'm done through chapter 8.

So what do you think so far, besides wanting to kill T. Ray?

I can't...it's driving me NUTS to know how her mom is going to tie into all of this!
I LOVE May! I think there should be more people like her in this world! Have you ever seen the Jimmy Steward movie Harvey? I cry in that movie & in Forrest Gump. I cry in Gump for obvious reasons but I also cry in that movie & Harvey because I think the world would be happier if we all had simple minds. The first line Jimmy Stewart speaks in Harvey got me. The mailman comes up to him at the beginning and says "Nice day today". Jimmy Stewart says "Everyday is a nice day". Granted, I'm a TOTAL sap and cry at the drop of a hat but just the simplicity of that thought got me. Why can't we all think everyday is a nice day and how much happier the world would be if we did!
She just called T. Ray at the end of the chapter I finished. I don't know how phone systems worked during this era but I'm afraid, since she called collect, the number is going to show up on his next phone bill!!!!
I sure wish Rosaleen would hock a good juicy one right in T. Ray's eye!!!!

Keep reading...you're going to love it!
